Angling - Sea Angling - Donegal Bay has somewhere in the region of 30 different species of fish and It is not unusual for a day’s fishing to produce at least 5 or more species. A big attraction in recent years is the presence of Tuna in the Bay. Most common species available are; Mackeral, Pollock, Pouting, Conger, Shark, Wrasse, Ling, Ray, Coalfish, Fluke, Flounder, Plaice. Everything considered a good days sea angling is almost guaranteed.

Game Angling -From Lough Melvin, which lies between Leitrim, Fermanagh and Donegal, you will find one of the finest lakes in the North West. This lake produces four different trout species, namely; Brown, Feroux, Gillaroo and Sonaghan trout, it also gets a very good run of Salmon and Grilse. From the Melvin the River Drowes rises and finally flows into Donegal Bay at Tullaghan. The Drowes traditionally produces the first caught Salmon in Ireland on New Year’s day each year. This is an excellent Salmon/Grilse river. The Duff River, which borders Sligo and Leitrim, on the N15, opens on May 1st each year and is also an excellent and very popular Salmon/Grilse river. From Salmon to Sea Trout on the Erne Estuary at Ballyshannon, if on a given day the fishing is not good you will certainly enjoy the scenery, which includes the highest banks in Europe. Sea Trout fishing starts on March 1st, and trout up to 5lbs have been caught on the Estuary, boats are available for hire at the Mall Quay. On Assoroe Lake, between the Hydro Electric Dams of Cathleen’s Falls and Cliff, you will find excellent Brown Trout and the odd Salmon.

Coastal Walks - The Cliff Walk as you would suspect from its very name is a walk along the cliff top and seashore of Bundoran’s West End. You can enjoy fine views of the Peak, Bundoran’s favourite haunt for surfers and across Donegal Bay. On a clear day you can clearly see the imposing sea cliffs ofSlieve League which are located across the bay and close to the small village of Carrick. At a height of 600 metres these cliffs are reputed to be the highest sea cliffs in Europe.

Rougey Walk - this is a circular walk taking in views of the Atlantic Ocean from Rougey and Bundoran’s bustling main street. Leaving the beach follow the path which veers left taking you around the headland with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Bundoran’s Championship Golf Course on the other. From the shelter at the top of Aughrus Point, the highest point on this walk, you can enjoy spectacular views across the town and out to sea.

Continue on along the path and you will come to the Fairy Bridges, cliff arches which have been carved by the Atlantic Ocean. Also close by is the Wishing Chair which is Bundoran’s answer to the Blarney Stone. Make a wish as you sit on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean!

On reaching the far end of the walk the panorama including magnificent Tullan Strand stretches out below the cliffs. From this point follow Tullan Strand Road back into town until you reach the junction with the main road. At this point take a right and follow the path back along Bundoran’s Main Street towards the Tourist Office.

Fairy Bridges & The Wishing Chair - Coming from South to North on the Wild Atlantic Way, Bundoran’s Tullan Strand is proud to be the first Discovery Point you will meet in County Donegal and what a place to start!

With scenic views for 360 degrees you can see back into Mullaghmore, County Sligo and across Donegal Bay to the magical Slieve League Cliffs.

As you begin the Roguey Walk Experience, you will arrive at the stunning Fairy Bridges – sea stacks hundreds of years old and Bundoran’s original tourist attraction back in the 1800s. However, it is believed that as far back as the 1700s locals thought these to be haunted by the fairies with the result of the name “The Fairy Bridges”.

While you’re there, take a seat on Bundoran’s own Wishing Chair. It is said that many of the town’s famous visitors over the years have sat here overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean – from poet William Allingham to golfer Christy O’Connor Jr to Viscount Enniskillen to 10 times world champion surfer Kelly Slater – they’re all believed to have sat in Bundoran’s famous Wishing Chair located at the Fairy Bridges at Tullan Strand. Legend says it is advised to approach the chair with caution lest the powers of the chair be disrupted. Wishers are advised to sit down slowly holding on to both “arms” of the chair and then pause for at least 15 seconds to take in the stunning scenery that surrounds them – Donegal Bay to their left, Tullan Strand straight ahead and the Dartry Mountains to the right. It is useful to contemplate the figures, possible heroes and heroines who may have sat in the chair in the years and the centuries ahead of them, before making their wish which must be done in silence and kept private to the wisher in order to increase the chances of it coming true. Finally it is believed that tapping the seat twice as you get up will give your final commitment that your wish is a genuine one.
